Keep Smiling

It may be the end of winter in a gloomy economic surround but 'Smile'!
It's a great idea for many reasons and Vocal Intelligence adds a new perspective to the already great wisdom.

Click http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iu-rLA4POkI
to listen to the Charlie Chaplan 'Smile' video while you read.

  1. Smiling helps you have a clear voice
There are parts of the throat known as the false vocal folds which close when you are depressed as part of the emotional response I call 'drowning'. When you smile these false vocal folds retract back into the lining of the larynx and presto 'clear throat'. (If you would like a video of this, contact me and I will let you see how it happens)

Other reasons why smiling may be a great thing to do today:
  2. Smiling makes you attractive
We are drawn to people who smile.
  3. Smiling changes your mood
Smiling can trick the body into helping you change your mood.
  4. Smiling is contagious
Smile lots and you will draw people to you.
  5. Smiling relieves stress
Smiling helps to prevent us from looking tired, worn down, and overwhelmed.
  6. Smiling boosts your immune system
When you smile, immune function improves possibly because you are more relaxed.
  7. Smiling lowers your blood pressure
When you smile, there is a measurable reduction in your blood pressure.
  8. Smiling releases endorphins, natural pain killers and serotonin
Studies have shown that smiling releases endorphins, natural pain killers, and serotonin.
  9. Smiling lifts the face and makes you look younger
The muscles we use to smile lift the face, making a person appear younger.
  10. Smiling makes you seem successful
Smiling people appear more confident, are more likely to be promoted, and more likely to be approached.
  11. Smiling helps you stay positive
Try this test: Smile. Now try to think of something negative without losing the smile. It's hard. When we smile our body is sending the rest of us a message that "Life is Good!" Stay away from depression, stress and worry by smiling.

Other reasons to smile are our upcoming programs:

Weekend Vocal Intelligence retreats in the Yarra Valley

6pm Friday 2nd October - 4pm Sunday 4th October
or
6pm Friday 13th November - 4pm Sunday 15th November

Here is what the participants had to say about the recent program in August:

Hi Louise, I just wanted to let you know that I feel so energised after the weekend. The whole combination of the retreat has had an effect on my body, mind and spirit!!
I feel so much more confident about public speaking now that I have that structure and know how to use the elements - particularly the "creative" properly. Some of it I was already doing in a less formalised way and it was working, but the unconscious aspect to what I was doing did not help to boost my confidence - as has this new found "conscious competence". As you say, I will need to practice - and am already doing so, and finding it all so much easier, having been put through my paces with the group.
I so enjoy your style of teaching and facilitation - it really works, and it's fun! The weekend of healthy living has definitely enhanced my sense of vitality which I truly appreciate.

Love your work girlfriend!! Amanda Schafer, Executive Coach

Other comments included:

Louise you are fantastic. Thank you for showing me a more open, bigger me and I can't wait to do more work with you. The program was very well balanced. Excellent content. Facilitation great. I love hands-on, practical exercises.
Brilliant Louise. Fascinating and informative. You are unique and very very skilled.
I can feel things I've learned in my bones now and was imitating you while telling my mother about the weekend and encouraging her to unjam her diaphragm: you have had a massive influence. So well done. Fantastic. You're bloody brilliant.
Thoroughly enjoyed it. As always your humour, capability and content captivated me. Very valuable - most of it I have seen before (in previous work with you) but still fresh and interesting and needed. Love the humour and your stories to illustrate. Watching others working to get it right - very helpful.
Everything excellent. Thank you for an inspirational weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed your insights
Lots of tools. Fun, Lively and informative.
Excellent content and lots of information. Louise, you are a fantastic facilitator. Loved it. Next step is singing.
All good and very interactive plus fun. Louise, your message is a good one and can help many people whether business arts or life.
Thank you Louise. I must say that I have learned more in two days with you than I have over a lifetime of stumbling my way through presentation after presentation.
You really are a miracle. Not only was it an amazing weekend, but you made such a difference to my husband. He was really quite collapsed and had lost so much confidence and he is so much better. He feels that he has skills and wants to do more. I am so happy. You have made me very very happy. Yes, you are a miracle.

Maybe you should be at the next one. For more information visit www.artofbusiness.com.au
